Readiness and the things you know for sure…

“Sometimes, I’ll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.”

Several years ago, my first coach suggested I read a book by Tony Schwartz called “What Matters Most”. I remember that I started reading it and found it to be really boring. The book and its contents didn’t speak to me in any kind of meaningful way, and I thought that Tony was a bit off his rocker.

Last year I picked the book up and couldn’t believe how much more interesting the book was. This time, the book was pertinent, had a great message and really spoke to me.

What happened? I would assume that in the meantime Tony Schwartz became really brilliant.

Okay, so that probably isn’t right. What happened is I changed. The things I believed I knew for sure changed too. Over the ensuing 8 or 9 years I had found different meanings in things that I looked at all of the time. I was ready to receive the message.

What things in your life have you discarded? Could it possibly be that you just haven’t been ready to receive them?
